Ralph Hueston Kratz has over 40 years of structural engineering experience, including almost 30 years as owner or partner of his own firm. His career has included design, investigation, and construction engineering. He has experience in steel, concrete and wood-framed buildings. Clients have included architects, homeowners, contractors, and attorneys. For seven years Ralph was Chief Structural Engineer of a 70–person architectural-engineering firm in Richmond, California. He has investigated many projects of most types and sizes for earthquake, flood, fire, deterioration, design deficiencies, and structural collapse.
For the past nineteen years Ralph has practiced independently in his own one-man firm. His professional specialty is residences, including the structural design of new construction and evaluating, repairing and upgrading existing structures, with an emphasis on earthquake improvements. He works closely with owners, including Owner-Builders, Contractors, and other professionals and takes pride in his thoughtful, conservative approach to structural design.
